I am rather obsessed with artist's studios at the moment, especially since I am in the process of planning my new one, which will be located in an unfinished old workshop attached to our house.  I am hoping to begin construction in Jan/Feb. 

I have mentioned the book Inside the Painter's Studio before, which is a favourite book of mine, exploring a number of famous contemporary artists' studios in and around New York.  Now I am very excited to tell you about a website created by an artist friend of mine Peter John Reid.  The website is called My Studio Space, and it is a completely interactive website where not only can you see other artists studios, but you can upload your own!  The point is to show the diverse spaces people work out of, no matter how small or how big.  It includes information like light sources, flooring type, floor plans, wall colours, and storage tips.  Check it out, and I hope that if you are an artist you will contribute!

This is a beautiful old barn that we drive past on the way to the cottage.  I managed to get some amazing photos one evening as the sun was getting low in the horizon.

This is my submission for the upcoming fundraiser HeArt hosted by our local arts council, the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts.  The theme was fire, and the first thing that came to mind for me was our blazing fall colours in the forests here.

Here is another amazing artist that you should check out if you get a chance: Rick Bond.  I just love love his work.  He has a real looseness to his paintings, a great range of colours and a vibrant feel, without being jarring.  I always smile when looking at his pieces.  Lots of fun.

Been Around for a Long Time

I painted this a couple of weeks back, while at the studio tour in front of a "live" audience. Since I'm not entirely comfortable painting in front of others (I'm getting there though), I decided to stick with "comfort material". So I painted my favourite barn.

The Black Bridge

This is one of the many bridges in our area that crosses the Beaver River. I have been wanting to paint the Black Bridge for a while now, as I pass over it most days.

Salmon and trout come up this river to their spawning grounds in the fall. Right now you can see many large fish (some salmon over two feet long!) fighting the currents to swim to the upper parts of the river. It is an amazing sight to behold.

I live in apple country. This painting is based on a farm that is located just down the road from our house (one of the many). When the apple blossoms are out in the spring, it is just heaven!

I am preparing for an upcoming studio tour: The Blue Mountain Tour of the Arts. I am thrilled to be displaying my work at a beautiful local store in Thornbury, Interior Motives. Leslie Lewis, the store owner, has a wonderful array of home decor, furniture, and gifts available. It is the perfect setting for my artwork!

The tour is on the May long weekend, as well as over Canadian Thanksgiving. If you are in the Collingwood, Ontario area then, come check it out!

Pastel Abstract

I have been wanting to delve into the pastel colour spectrum for a while, and I did so with this one. I don't paint many abstracts, and though I have a loose style, I like to have my reference material!! So relaxing and painting freely from my imagination can be a little difficult. This is another painting on a black ground, which I think provides a nice contrast from the pastel paint colours.

OK, this one is a departure from my usual style, but I had a lot of fun with it. I just may pursue more paintings like this in a series. I am thinking a little bird in the branches of the next one would be great...if only there were more hours in the day!

"The Purple House"

We just recently moved to Ontario from British Columbia. I had a four month break from painting while dealing with the move, home renovations etc. I am back at it and very happy to be creating again. This was the first painting I completed this spring. I am planning on doing a series of paintings inspired by the old century homes and barns, and the rolling hills of rural Ontario.
