In just under a week I head off on an adventure to Killarney Provincial Park in Ontario.   Three other women artists and I will be canoeing, portaging, camping and painting in one of the most beautiful, pristine areas in the province.  It has been a year since our last trip, and I have been feasting on the resource materials (photos and studies) that I brought home last time.  This painting is one of those paintings inspired by my time there.

I love hot summer days when the clouds are floating across the sky, and the flax fields are blooming.  Rolling blue fields against the summer sea of green is always a welcome reprieve for any painter!

The other day I decided to do some experimenting.  I painted the same scene using two different underpainting methods.  The upper painting uses a tangerine ground, while the bottom painting uses a black ground.  Which do you prefer?
