Now this is the larger studio painting that I created, based on the original study below.  Something does get lost in transition, though I really played with the bronze and gold paints on this one, which is hard to see in the photo. I am now on a iridescent and metallic paint kick.   More to come!

This is a plein air piece that was created a few weeks ago went the fall colours were at their peak.  An artist friend and I parked ourselves at the edge of a beaver pond for the day, and enjoyed the golden light and glorious colours.  I only appreciate that so much more today when the wind is howling and it is rainy and cold. Winter is coming!

In just under a week I head off on an adventure to Killarney Provincial Park in Ontario.   Three other women artists and I will be canoeing, portaging, camping and painting in one of the most beautiful, pristine areas in the province.  It has been a year since our last trip, and I have been feasting on the resource materials (photos and studies) that I brought home last time.  This painting is one of those paintings inspired by my time there.

The other day I decided to do some experimenting.  I painted the same scene using two different underpainting methods.  The upper painting uses a tangerine ground, while the bottom painting uses a black ground.  Which do you prefer?

Played with a different colour palette with this one, including some irridescent paint, which unfortunately doesn't read in the photo.  I am a huge fan of watery blues and greens. If left to my own devices, I could use those colours all the time!

I am taking a plein air workshop with artist Don Cavin this week.  It has been a fantastic experience, and always wonderful to get a fresh perspective and tips from an excellent artist such as Don.  Even after the first morning of the class I felt I had gleaned so much information.  The weather started off a little lousy during the week, but has got better each day.  It is an energizing experience to spend an entire week painting outdoors.  Good for the soul!
