Ski season is upon us! Here is a painting of one of our local ski hills on the Niagara Escarpment, called the Georgian Peaks Ski Club.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year.

Late Afternoon Loree Forest
36 x 36 inAcrylic on Canvas
SOLD
I am excited to announce that I have launched my new website,
www.jenniferwoodburn.com. Check it out if you have a chance. For some of you who have been following my blog, you may experience an interrupted feed, as I switched my blog address to www.jenniferwoodburn.blogspot.com from the above address. You may need to sign up to follow my blog again to get regular updates. I hope that helps.
I used Foliosnap to create and host my website. After doing a lot of research, I found they had the best layout, design features, ease of use and price point on the market for what I was looking for. So far, I am very happy with the product.

Early Snow
36"x60"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
You may have noticed, that I have a love of vibrant colour. That's what drives me to paint. I just LOVE colours. I often decide on a colour palette before I even choose the subject matter.
So now I am painting winter scenes. The skiers and boarders are arriving in our area, and that's what people like to see in the galleries. I can't blame them - I'm all over everything winter right now. So how do I incorporate colour into winter scenes? Well, that's just the quandry I face. I can always ease off on the colour, go with more subtle ones, more greys etc. - but I don't want to! I guess I will just have to see what I come up with over the coming months...who says snow has to be white?

Fall Again
12" x 12"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
Today's cool artist that you should check out is Sheila Kernan. I love both her city street scenes as well as her landscapes. It would be great to be a fly on the wall in her studio, just to see how she does it! Sounds like she uses, acrylic, oil and an air spray gun...fascinating. Looking at her work gets me in the mood to explore some new techniques.

Metcalfe in Fall
30" x 40"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
This is a painting that I donated to a fundraiser for my son's school. The Sugar Plum Fair, as it is called, has a silent auction as well as many other holiday related activities. As I was also on the organizing committee for this event, I am happy to say the sales were a success, and lots of funds were raised. Now I can stop organizing, and go back to painting!! Thanks to Emma McCurdy for buying the painting. I hope you enjoy it.

Silent Reverie
12" x 12"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
It was a successful show opening last night. Lots of beautiful art to check out. I even took home a piece myself, a stunning painting by Peter John Reid, one of my favourite local artists.
Peter has also recently written a book "How To Paint With Acrylics". It provides some really interesting information for acrylic painters. I have read many acrylic paintings books in the past, but found a variety of new insights in this book. Peter sells them directly, if you are interested, check out his link.

So Many Pieces
36" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
I just finished reading Inside the Painters Studio by Joe Fig. Wow! What an unbelievable peek inside the studios of some of the most interesting contemporary artists working today (missing a few Canadian artists however...). If you like to learn about other artists' working methods, tools and paints used, studio set up, and a look into the day to day life of other artists, then this is the book for you. I devoured it and will be reading it all over again soon.

Been Around for a Long Time
24" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
SOLD
I painted this a couple of weeks back, while at the studio tour in front of a "live" audience. Since I'm not entirely comfortable painting in front of others (I'm getting there though), I decided to stick with "comfort material". So I painted my favourite barn.

The Black Bridge
24" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
This is one of the many bridges in our area that crosses the Beaver River. I have been wanting to paint the Black Bridge for a while now, as I pass over it most days.
Salmon and trout come up this river to their spawning grounds in the fall. Right now you can see many large fish (some salmon over two feet long!) fighting the currents to swim to the upper parts of the river. It is an amazing sight to behold.

They All Fall Down
60" x 36"
Acrylic Canvas
SOLD
I had a chance to record a promotional TV spot for Rogers Cable today about the upcoming art tour. Nerve wracking, but fun all at the same time! If you are in the Thornbury-Clarksburg area this weekend, I will be painting on site at Interior Motives. My work will be shown at both Interior Motives as well as the Loft Gallery. It should be fun!

Among the Rocks
48"x 48"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD
This is one of my favourite pieces painted to date, and the largest! I have to admit, I am getting very used to painting big now. When I approach the smaller canvases, it starts to feel very constricting! Maybe I am over compensating (I am 5'1" tall, or should I say short...) - you would have laughed to see me painting on my step stool yesterday.

Painted this one during a plein air workshop I was in earlier this summer with John David Anderson. A great old house with a marvelous willow tree out front.

Here is another painting of mine for the upcoming Loft Gallery show. There is a great viewpoint of the Beaver Valley from a, outcropping of the escarpment called "Old Baldy." It is a view I would never tire from looking at, out over the town of Kimberley and Talisman Resort.

11" x 14" acrylic on canvas

I painted this one the other week during a plein air painting course I was taking. We were located at an amazing local property called Carpe Diem. The owner specializes in perennial gardens, and her flowers were unbelieveable. I was also enamoured by her cute little bird houses, and the rhythm of the trees bordering her property.

This is my final painting completed for the Art Tour this weekend. As I said before, my work will be shown at Interior Motives in Thornbury and the Loft Gallery in Clarksburg.
Now I have to get back to painting as we have a quite few empty walls to fill in our house!
