I am taking a great portraiture class at the moment, taught by Cynthia Marsh. Here is a picture of my son Max, painted from a photo from when we were in Hawaii a few years ago. I have a lot to learn when it comes to painting people, but I really enjoy it!

It's interesting seeing your painting style in a portrait. There are differences from what you are doing in landscape, mostly in the brushwork. I look forward to seeing how portrait paining evolves for you. I like what I'm seeing so far. I've tried portrait painting,I've taken lesson, but I have yet to produce anything I liked. I have several portraits almost completed but all have no eyes! That's the hardest part for me.
You did a wonderful job! It looks great. You have good variation of hue, the planes of the face are there, all elements are in place. It's up to you now to decide whether you have a good likeness.
V-e-r-y different from your other work! Love to compare the looseness and softened edges in this piece in comparison to your bolder edged other pieces. Same artist, but two unique and different styles. Hmmmm, so interesting!
Thanks for the comments. You are right, this isn't like my regular style. I found that since I was so focused on getting the likeness correct, that I lost my loose brushstrokes, and got way too tight. I also used a pretty bland colour as an under painting (rather than my usual red or black). Thanks for checking in!
