The Odd Couple

16" x 16"
Acrylic on Canvas

SOLD

This is a friend's barn that I photographed a couple of weeks ago, after an amazing snowshoe on her property.  They have completely renovated this historic barn, and it looks amazing.  It is actually black, but I couldn't resist changing the colour to red.  That's the chicken house out front.

Takes You To Places

48" x 48"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD

This was one of those paintings that just flowed for me, which is great because it's a big one.  However, I now find myself completely paralyzed on the next one.  Does that ever happen to you?  I am trying to work through it, and hope my mojo responds!

Heading to the Peaks

20" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas

SOLD
I have just finished reading a beautifully illustrated biography of Canadian painting master, A.Y. Jackson.  The book is called A.Y. Jackson: Life of a Landscape Painter by Wayne Larsen.  I really enjoyed reading about this great man who captured the Canadian landscape so wonderfully.  An excellent read, with some cool reproductions of his work.

Beaver Valley Barn

24" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas

SOLD

This was a commission that I completed before Christmas.

Here is another amazing artist that you should check out if you get a chance: Rick Bond.  I just love love his work.  He has a real looseness to his paintings, a great range of colours and a vibrant feel, without being jarring.  I always smile when looking at his pieces.  Lots of fun.

Fiery Sky on Old Baldy

60" x 40"
Acrylic on Canvas
Loft Gallery
SOLD

This is the final piece that I have created for the Winter Art Show at the Loft Gallery in Clarksburg.

I want to send a big thank you out to Margaret Ryall, who included my work in a posting on her blog Painting On.  She is exploring the subject of "the spaces in between," in regards to painting.  This is one of my favourite subjects, as a self proclaimed negative-space junkie!   Check it out if you get a chance.  Margaret creates some really wonderful work herself.

As It Stands

60" x 48"
Acrylic on Canvas

This one is now officially the largest canvas that I have worked on.  I am getting used to the larger canvases, and quite enjoy painting them.  Once I am out of my current studio aka. laundry room, and into my future studio (approximately 1-2 years away), I will really be able to get big!  Until then, I am happy to chug along with my mid sized canvases.  The plan is to convert an unfinished workshop that is attached to our house into a working studio for me.  It is a good size, approx 24"x26", but needs heat, better lighting, drywall and a sink.  So in the meantime, I paint and save my pennies for the renovation!

Loree Forest Path

16"x16"
Acrylic on Canvas

SOLD

As I prepare for another year in the art world, I am setting my goals and making my plans for 2010.  I thought that I would share a great resource that I have found.  This fall I read The Artist's Guide: How to Make a Living Doing What You Love by Jackie Battenfield.  It is a fantastic read, and has lots of excellent advice and guidance on the biz of art.  I should make you aware, that I have a marketing and business background, so of course this is an area that I quite enjoy.  However, even for those who do not, this still has some great info for you, and is easy to follow along.  Though some of the information is US based, there was still enough general info for a Canuck like me to learn from. Highly recommended!

Birch Dance

36" x 24"
Acrylic on Canvas
SOLD

I am back from a trip to Saskatchewan to visit my family. Brrr it was cold!  Hope everyone had a wonderful new years and holiday season.  School (for my son) starts back up again tomorrow, which means I can get back to the easel and paint!  I am feeling very refreshed after a ten day break.  Chomping at the bit to get painting again - I love that feeling...
